Hey guys, I'm trying to set up a winamp stream using Icecast. I have the Edcast plugin for winamp ready, its set to MP3 with the latest version of the .dll file. I start up the icecast server, and tell it to run on port 8000. I had some one try and connect to it, when everything was connected, and they can't hear anything. I had live recording turned on, with it coming from the microphone, so they could hear me speaking, but they said that it will say connecting, but then will not connect to it, or if it does, it says error synking stream. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also tried taking down my FTP, and trying port 21 which is forwarded, but nothing. Thanks, Mike.

Is that what you're gonna call your station? I really like it if you are.

Post 3 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 06-Jul-2008 23:18:37

OOOOh, good idea. I just picked that name because i was using icecast, and i was going to do a stream, and it wasn't working. But, thanks, I think I will call it that.

Post 4 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 07-Jul-2008 10:19:52

No problem. I think it sounds really cool.

Post 5 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Tuesday, 08-Jul-2008 12:54:11

Have you used the same set up on any other station?
Can they hear any music being played..
One thing you could also try is the line recording plug in for winamp and see if that solves it.

Post 6 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 08-Jul-2008 17:04:40

I tried it with squiggles and his machine, and I also tried to connect localy and nothing happens. Both edcast and icecast r set up the same way, and port 8000 is forwarded properly. On both machines, we get error messages from WMP.

Post 7 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 08-Jul-2008 23:04:16

Hey, the ice cold stream is now oupand running. I gave up on icecast, and just went to using tshoutcas. With cddy's help, we got it up and runing. Now, I'm not going into my rowsders page, unless its absolutely nesessary. Ports 21, 8000 and 8001 r forwarded, lets hope nothing else needs doing in it. Well, u can access the stream here.

Ok, lets try that last post again shall we? I don't know what happened their.
Ok, the stream is up and running. I'm curently listening to it on my laptop. I took Dez's advice, and named it "the ice cold stream". I gave up with icecast and edcast, and just grabbed shoutcast and the plugin for winamp. With Cody's help, I forwarded ports 8000 and 8001. Now, its running at 160 KPBS, 44.100 KHZ stereo. If u have any suggestions for it, please send me an IM. Its a rock/metal station, with a few country and electronic songs as well. Mainly rock and metal though. Heres the link to the page.

Enjoy guys, l8r, Mike.

The problem was that he had wrong IP info in some of the fields and the winamp plug-in was not configured correctly. Now we are good to broadcast.

Post 10 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 09-Jul-2008 14:36:43

The only problem that i've been having, is that if u try to connect using winamp, it won't connect. It says "resolving host winamp stoped...". I am not sure y its doing this, but windows media player will play the stream just fine.

Post 11 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 12-Jul-2008 12:45:34

Ok, I think whatever has made winamp act strange is fixed now. Also, all of my files r either MP3 or M4A. Man, that was a pain in the neck to fix up. But, the stream's all up and public now. Enjoy.

Post 12 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Saturday, 12-Jul-2008 12:55:54

That's awesome. I didn't have a problem connecting to it with winamp in the first place though. The only thing that happened to me is that I was listening and it stopped for no reason, but if you fixed it, that's cool.

Post 13 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 12-Jul-2008 12:57:45

hmm the only reason y it may have stopped, is it was buffering, or i had to take it down for something

Post 14 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Saturday, 12-Jul-2008 23:15:30

Glad ya got it working using Shoutcast.
Icecast and Shoutcast are almost the same anyway, Icecast is just newer and easier to set up, but that's just my opinion, especially when using the latest version of Winamp, the Icecast server, and Edcast. Google is also a good resource when trying to help set up servers to stream stuff. It helped me, and now my stream is set up, and it works great.

Post 15 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 0:58:44

Hey, looking through my shoutcast log, I see a huge amount of IP addresses connecting, the disconnecting after either 0 or 1 seconds. Is that just shoutcast, because how in the world can people hear anything if their connected for 1 second? I tried it myself, using my laptop, as soon as i heard music, i hit stop. It was 4 seconds. What do u all think? O, in case any of u were wondering y some of my songs r lower volume then others, I'm currently in gold wave, fixing that issue. Also, I've added the stream in klango's media catalogue.

Post 16 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 28-Aug-2008 0:36:53

For anyone who listened on here, the stream is back up again. I had some internet troubles, ten my computer decided to die. I got another one from cody (he's got plenty), and re set it up. Enjoy guys, and I'm also working on getting an IRC channel set up for it, as well as a son requestor that I found. If u would like me to add anything to the stream, send it here.

What's the URL for your stream? It seems to have changed.

Post 19 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 30-Aug-2008 21:15:55

Its still the same.
listen
Let me know if u still can't access the page. I know Big D can.

Post 20 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Saturday, 30-Aug-2008 22:48:28

Still not working. All I got when trying to visit the link to the stream in Firefox, was:
Page Load Error

The URL I typed was:

And nothing plays when I type it into the Open URL dialog in Winamp.

Post 21 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 31-Aug-2008 0:28:13

uh-oh. um, that's weird. COdy can connect to it. Try Media player. I'm not sure on y your having trouble. If it still doesn't work, go to shoutcast.com, and search for it, then click on the tune in link, see if that fixes it.
Also, I have been asked to help stream with the cajnet radio stream. I'm not sure on when I will be starting Mack said anytime on Monday, but rom then on, i'm not sure. heres their link. Put this into winamp.

I'm using IE and it works just fine for me.
Brings up the shoutcast page and everything and sounds fine through winamp.

Post 23 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 31-Aug-2008 12:26:15

Still having trouble jeff?

Post 24 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 31-Aug-2008 12:26:19

OK, works fine now. Wierd.

Post 25 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 02-Sep-2008 2:17:54

Ok, I told myself that I wouldn't be posting a lot in here, but I guess that was wrong. Anyway, if u have been to the page, u may have noticed taht i only have 5 listener slots avilable. When I get home from school today, I'm gonna change my encoder to AAC+, which will enable me to acomedate another 40 or so listeners. I'm not sure if it will ever get that high, but if it does, that'd be awesome. Also, I figured out a way so that when I will be bradcasting with cajnet, I can also broadcast the ice cold stream. I had forgotten that winamp'd DSP plugin for shoutcast can support up to five different streams, so i just put the information in their, and it worked out alright. l8r, Mike.

Post 26 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 07-Sep-2008 12:18:32

I need some ones help please. I had the station on klango, but our power got knocked out, and my IP changed. For some reason, the station is sticking around in klango media catalogue, but I can't install it on my school's laptop, and I can't get into the station through my desktop, because that's where i'm streaming from. Could some one go into klango, and check if the stream is still operational their, or if not, could you re add it in again with the new IP? Thanks verry much.

Post 27 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 07-Sep-2008 12:32:29

I'll take a lok and see what I can do. My power went out for a few minutes yesterday as well, but my IP didn't change. And, no, it's not static.

Post 28 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Thursday, 18-Sep-2008 14:16:27

Hey, a few things to say. First, thanks to the awesome help of louianno, I now have a bott in my channel, which wil announce the songs. Secondly, I've adjusted the buffering level for winamp, so if any of you guys have connected and gotten some major skips, try now, and see if its any better. Thirdly, this is my one thousandth post yay!

Post 29 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Sunday, 21-Sep-2008 15:55:55

Post 30 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 21-Sep-2008 16:10:27

I have one. I've had one for quite a while now.

Post 31 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 30-Sep-2008 17:56:10

Hey, for anyone who has been listening, I removed "Get Stoned" from the list, that song was causing winamp to freeze up my entire computer. I'll keep an eye on the other songs, see if I can find any others that are making it freeze, but from the looks of it, that one was the only one. I've been adding a lot of new stuff to it, so check it out.

Post 32 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 28-Nov-2008 20:12:48

Hey guys, been a while since I updated this thread, but I thought anyone who listens on here might wanna know this. My domain name has changed. its now http://blindndangerous.homeftp.net:8000. Enjoy.

Post 33 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Monday, 17-Aug-2009 22:54:48

Hey all, another new thing, I now have two other people helping me out since I'm at college. The other two DJs that I have are bigD and screaming_turtle. Also, since I'm at college, I'm now having some one host this. heres the new address.
http://misters-pbx.bounceme.net:8000
Keep in mind, this is just something I wanted to do for fun, this is not a proffessional station or anything like that. All three of us play a variety of things, with me in the modern era I guess you could say of rock, metal, heavy metal, and a bit of country and electronic, BigD has a bit of everything, and screaming_turtle has everything from today to the sixties. Tune in if ya like, if no one is streaming, give it a bit, most of the time one of us will notice and start it up.

Post 34 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 17-Mar-2010 18:42:12

Wow, looking back on how this thread started, I was really bad at grammar. haha. Anywho, some new stuff.
The new link for the stream is as follows:
http://www.devils-edge.net:8000
That is the domain name I just bought last night, and decided to host off of. Just like to say again that this is absolutely nothing professional, just something I thought of doing.
The irc server has also changed, you can now find the channel here.
irc.irchat.tv channel #theicecoldstream
